England coach John Mitchell revealed that Zoe Aldcroft’s consistency distinguished the lock as a perfect captain to lead the red roses in a home rugby world cup.
Aldcroft was appointed skipper in a huge year for the dominant team of England, replacing Marlie Packer in the role before the six nations of women.

“It’s never an easy decision to make a change. You must respect what Marlie has done for her country and in terms of leadership.
“When you have depth, this person must be a certainty on the team sheet. Unfortunately, we had a stadium where there is competition in seven positions, so it is a difficult decision.
“It is never personal – I am in this situation several times in my life and it is not something that is comfortably with you.
“There were a few cups of tea at night and a few late heights, but at the end of the day, it became very clear in my belly that it is the right decision and that is what the team needs. “”
Packer, who assumes a role of vice-captain, has already offered significant support for the new skipper, who can also count on the support of former captain Sarah Hunter when the defense coach of England returns from leave maternity.

“We have a massive place for improvement. Canada Game [at WXV last year] We really challenged and we have not too often faced this pressure as red roses. From this game, we have learned a lot about how we can be better.
“On the ground, we want to be unstoppable, but it is a question of taking every day as it happens and how we can develop individually every day in the future.”
