England coach John Mitchell revealed that Zoe Aldcroft’s consistency distinguished the lock as a perfect captain to lead the red roses in a home rugby world cup.
Aldcroft was appointed skipper in a huge year for the dominant team of England, replacing Marlie Packer in the role before the six nations of women.
The place of the Vétéran Packer on OpenSide began to be threatened as young people, including Sadia Kabeya Emerge, while Lock Aldcroft is one of the first names of the Teamsheet sheet of Mitchell after several years of exceptional performance.
Although he is not necessarily an effusive speaker, the Gloucester-Hartpury striker is very respected within the team and hopes to lead them to glory on the ground at home in August and September.
Mitchell admitted that he was considering a captain’s switch practically since he played the role of chief coach of England in 2023, Aldcroft established himself as a related spirit and an ideal leader.
“I love a person in accordance with his actions,” said Mitchell. “Zoe is an athlete and a person who is very proud to be consistent in his actions and it is the kind of leader we need before us.
“I am not a huge speaker, Zoe is not a huge speaker, but in the end, the best place is your actions. It allows you to communicate effectively.
“It’s never an easy decision to make a change. You must respect what Marlie has done for her country and in terms of leadership.
“When you have depth, this person must be a certainty on the team sheet. Unfortunately, we had a stadium where there is competition in seven positions, so it is a difficult decision.
“It is never personal – I am in this situation several times in my life and it is not something that is comfortably with you.
“There were a few cups of tea at night and a few late heights, but at the end of the day, it became very clear in my belly that it is the right decision and that is what the team needs. “”
Packer, who assumes a role of vice-captain, has already offered significant support for the new skipper, who can also count on the support of former captain Sarah Hunter when the defense coach of England returns from leave maternity.
ALDCROFT first capitalized on his country at his 25th anniversary in 2021 and assumed the full -time role while the team is looking to go to another level to win a first World Cup since 2014.
“A massive part of being a captain gives the example,” said Aldcroft about his leadership style. “When I speak, I really mean what I say and I like to think about what I say.
“But it is also about bringing everyone around me and making sure that everyone can be himself and prosper in everything they do. It is also very great that I am supported by such an incredible management team who has so much different strengths and together, we can really lead this team to something special.
“We have a massive place for improvement. Canada Game [at WXV last year] We really challenged and we have not too often faced this pressure as red roses. From this game, we have learned a lot about how we can be better.
“On the ground, we want to be unstoppable, but it is a question of taking every day as it happens and how we can develop individually every day in the future.”
