Next month’s Genesis Invitational PGA Tour event, scheduled to take place near the carnage of the Los Angeles fire in Pacific Palisades, will be moved to another location, officials confirmed Thursday.
A statement from PGA Tour organizers and Genesis said a new venue for the Feb. 13-16 tournament at Riviera Country Club – which will also host the 2028 Olympics golf tournament – would be revealed “in the coming days” .
“The PGA Tour continues to focus on the safety and well-being of those affected by the unprecedented natural disaster in Greater Los Angeles,” the PGA Tour said in a statement.
“We are grateful for the life-saving efforts of first responders and the tireless work done to end the tragic wildfires.
“We have determined that the 2025 Genesis Invitational will be played at an alternate location the week of February 10-16. A location update and additional tournament information will be provided in the coming days.”
The future of this year’s Genesis Invitational has been uncertain since devastating fires broke out in Los Angeles last week, destroying the nearby Pacific Palisades and other areas in a series of destruction that has so far claimed at least 24 died and destroyed some 12,000 structures.
Riviera suffered no damage in the fires, but is just inside the boundaries of the mandatory evacuation zone that forced residents to flee the disaster.
Golf superstar Tiger Woods, who is hosting the tournament, said Tuesday that organizers had not given much thought to the possibility of playing the tournament.
“We’re not really focused on the tournament at the moment,” Woods said.
“There are so many other things that are more important than that. It’s more about what we can do to help everyone who is struggling, who has lost their home and whose lives have changed.”
